Effie Solomon Scholarship Winner – 2024

Elaina Pappan

The American Association of University Women, Beaver Valley Branch, awarded the Effie M. Solomon Memorial Law Scholarship to Elaina Pappan, daughter of Mary and Spiro Pappan of Chippewa, on September 7, 2024 during the AAUW annual fall brunch.

Ms. Pappan graduated from Blackhawk High School in 2018 and attended Miami University graduating with a major in Finance and a minor in Fashion. She continued her education at Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts. Since childhood, Ms. Pappan always wanted to attend law school and help people. She currently works in a housing clinic where she assists individuals who have faced discrimination or eviction from their homes.

The Effie Solomon Law Scholarship aligns with her goal of advocating for women and she is proud to further this mission through her work. The scholarship of $2,500.00 will greatly assist in covering the expense of books and bar preparation courses as she prepares to study for the bar exam in the coming months.

The family of the late Effie M. Solomon, a well known Beaver County lawyer, established a scholarship in her honor to aid Western PA women who are training to be lawyers. In 1984, the Beaver Valley Branch of AAUW initiated awarding this annual scholarship to deserving women who are pursuing a law degree. Proceeds from the annual AAUW Kitchen Tour fundraiser contribute to this scholarship. Information about the law scholarship is available at: beavervalley-pa.aauw.net
