AAUW AWARDS – 2024
The awards committee is pleased to honor branch members and a community
member for their endeavors in the spirit of the AAUW mission during the past year.
NAMED GIFT HONOREES
Members who have shown leadership or great effort to the Branch.
JODEAN BROOKS
- Serving two consecutive terms as Membership VP effectively increasing membership.
- Co-chair of the Community Committee organizing Girls Recognition Night for over 10 years.
- Serves as College/Universities Chair.
NANCY COLE
- Offers her “fueled up” van gratis for AAUW members to travel to various activities.
- Supports the Kitchen Tour, devoting time to set up and wrap up ensuring all raffle basket winners receive their winnings. Contributes a huge basket as well.
- Hosted Femmes du Jour on her beautiful wrap-around porch providing rental tables, chairs and linens.
LEA KRETCHMAR
- Serves as the branch’s self-directed photographer capturing memories at various events.
- Assists and supports the branch in the area of technology including the image and materials for the Kitchen Tour.
- Works with the branch webmaster to maintain current information on our website.
KIM LITZ
- Serving two terms a Co-President, a demanding responsibility.
- Stepped up to continue the Branch Newsletter so the communication to members would continue without interruption.
- Supports the Kitchen Tour in many aspects, even Co-chairing of Paper Goods.
NANCY MAHOSKY
- Serves as the faithful Financial Officer for 17 years managing all things financial.
- Assumed the leadership role in organizing requirements for the National AAUW 5 Star Recognition Program.
- Achieved 3 Star status and is pursuing 5 Star status which is quite an undertaking.
MEMBER MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Member who has made a significant difference of something of importance to the branch within the past year.
VICTORIA “VICKIE” SCOTT
- As a new member, she immersed herself in branch activities by meeting members and learning about branch purposes and philosophy.
- Volunteered to chair the Kitchen Tour committee after being a member for a year.
- Revised branch By-Laws and Policies.
OUTSTANDING WOMAN OF THE BRANCH
Awarded to a member for meritorious service to the branch and community for her accumulative service.
JEAN MACALUSO
- Jean was instrumental in creating and developing a successful Kitchen Tour fundraiser for the past 22 years where she served as the outstanding Chair of the committee for 12 years. Under her leadership, the Kitchen Tour has become a recognized and popular community event that benefits scholarships for women.
- Created Femmes du Jour, a monthly social luncheon where members explore new venues every month.
- Serves as Co-chair of the Scholarship Committee.
GATEWAY TO EQUITY
Awarded to someone in the community, not necessarily an AAUW member, who has promoted inclusion of women in the workplace as well as other leadership roles.
SHELBY BLACK-COUCH
Director Partner, Trades of Hope
- Shelby empowers women to rise up out of poverty by providing sustainable business opportunities for oppressed women from 16 countries including USA.
- A world-changing storyteller, Shelby shares inspiring stories about the impact behind the handmade fair trade artisanal goods — jewelry, handbags, accessories, home decor and more.
- Held a fundraiser donating proceeds to the AAUW scholarship fund as she believes education is the key to success for girls around the world.
CHAMPION OF AAUW BEAVER VALLEY
Awarded to an individual or organization that substantially supports the AAUW Mission and Values.
DAMIAN EONTA
Beaver Resident
- Made arrangements to showcase his exquisite home for the Kitchen Tour during his absence. As a new resident in Beaver, Damian went above and beyond to complete renovations in his home in time for our event.
- Contributed to the success of the KItchen Tour by generously donating to the scholarship fundraiser.
- Damian went from not knowing about AAUW to becoming a strong supporter of the AAUW mission.
