2023 Kitchen Tour – Overview

The mission statement of AAUW is to advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy. AAUW is the number one go-to organization when it comes to lawmakers, policy makers, educators, and the general public needing statistics and research for a particular issue involving women and girls. AAUW (The American Association of University Women) was established in Washington, D.C. in 1881 and incorporated in 1889. Our branch (AAUW Beaver Valley Branch) was organized in 1930.

The Kitchen Tour Fundraiser has become synonymous with our branch and has been held annually on the last Saturday in September since 2001 with the exception of years 2020 and 2021. Due to the pandemic, virtual fundraisers were held during those years. We are happy to return to the traditional format with in-person tours of 5 home kitchens with a different sampling at each and the Marketplace with several vendors and other booths at Dutch Ridge Elementary School. The Kitchen Tour proceeds provide scholarships for women in various areas: traditional scholarships for Beaver County high school graduates, non-traditional scholarships for graduates re-entering or pursuing a degree post high school, the Effie M. Solomon Memorial Scholarship to a deserving current law student, and to a worthy student at CCBC. Proceeds also support other branch mission based programs such as Girls’ Recognition Night where Beaver County eighth grade girls, nominated by their teachers, are honored and recognized for their work in the subjects of math and science. This event is held in partnership with the Community College of Beaver County at their facility. The purpose of this event is to increase awareness about possible careers in the formerly male dominated STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields.

For more information about our organization, please visit the tables set up in the Marketplace including AAUW in Action, Public Policy, and Membership. Enjoy a discount on dues when you join at this event. Please like and follow us on Facebook at AAUW Beaver Valley Branch to keep up with our activities. Our updated web site has additional information about our programs. We are so grateful for your support which in turn, enables us to continue to conduct these activities for women and girls. We hope you enjoy exploring and tasting and look forward to seeing you in person, again.
