Meetings and Programs

GUESTS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME TO ATTEND ANY OF OUR GENERAL MEETINGS.

RESERVATIONS ARE ONLY REQUIRED FOR LUNCHEONS.

Our branch meetings are held at First Presbyterian Church, College Avenue, Beaver, Room 210.

Meetings in October, November, December, and April are held the first Thursday of each month at 7 pm unless otherwise noted. Social time begins at 6:30 pm. Meetings in February and March are held on the first Saturday of the month at 10 am Social time begins at 9:30 am.

In September, we hold our fall kickoff brunch, and in May, we hold our scholarship luncheon. See newsletter for dates and reservation information.

Our general membership meetings may be changed to online via Zoom if necessary.

“Excellence in Nursing”
Our presenter, Dr. Carl Ross, will take us on a journey that began at Duquesne University, where he taught for 14 years focusing on international health care and earned his doctorate in transcultural nursing. Dr. Ross volunteered to spearhead a partnership health program with a school in Nicaragua where health care was so urgently needed. He took his first trip to the country in 1995. The trip developed into the “Clinical Study Aboard Programs”. Dr. Ross will give us his insight into the 30 years of spearheading the program.

“Shape the Future Event”
Meet Pamela Rossi-Keen, the Executive Director of Genesis Collective. The Collective supports a diverse group of local artists, activists, academics, and organizers who each bring their unique backgrounds, experiences, and passions of their work to the Genesis Collective. Pamela Rossi-Keen facilitates the groups and their work to increase the public’s awareness of the values of diversity, inclusivity and imagination in our communities.

“High Notes to Hand Bells”
“I just love making music. It’s such a delight”. These are the words that describe Susan Garton’s remarkable career as a professional hand bell soloist. Her many accomplishments throughout her musical career have entertained audiences across the United States and also in Kiev, Ukraine and Presov, Slovakia. Join us for Susan’s performance this evening with her accompanist Mary Rita Rossetti.

“One Immigrant’s Story”
Our presenter, Orysia Galadza Hladio, will tell the story of her family leaving their native land of Ukraine in 1944, during World War II, and coming to the United States in 1949. Orysia was 7 ½ years old when her parents packed up their family of five preparing for their nighttime departure from their primitive Western Ukrainian village of Bilokernycia. Orysia will share her family’s escape from Russian soldiers, time spent in Displaced Persons Camps, immigration to the USA and the family’s acculturation to a new and successful life in America.

“Unsung Heroes: Beaver County Farmers”
Beaver County has access to a number of amazing local Farmers’ Markets. Bud and Patricia Noss operate one of these farms, Highland Homestead, in Hanover Township. Our presenter this morning is Patricia Noss, who has taken some time from her busy schedule to provide us with an inside look into the many operations of their farm. She is also President of the Beaver County Farmer’s Market Association which promotes fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats and a wide variety of other products.

“Genealogy: Do You Know Yours?”
Meet Jim Teapole, Board and staff member of the Beaver County History Center. Mr. Teapole will be giving us an introduction to the Genealogy & History Center, the origin of the Center and its current location. His powerpoint presentation deals with photos of the main room, views of information categories, and various items that can be used in your researching of Beaver County history or family history.
